Jitterbug is the traditional name for what is known in studios as “single-time swing.” It is similar to East Coast or triple-time swing, but requires less athletic endurance! Jitterbug is also more versatile, fun, and easily danced to fast music.
Next to waltz, jitterbug is the best dance to know for wedding receptions and parties. It fits perfect to many upbeat pop and rock-n-roll tunes. Traditional jitterbug music includes “In the Mood” by Glenn Miller, “Sweet Soul Music” by Arthur Conley, and “Jailhouse Rock” by Elvis Presley, while contemporary music includes “Why I Don’t Know” with Lyle Lovett and “One Bayou Drive” by Roomful of Blues. Popular country swings include “Hard Workin’ Man” by Brooks & Dunn.
